Dinadi – Nepal
DescriptionAs I'm sitting here finishing work on some final images for Dinadi, I started thinking back tomy time in Nepal, about the people I met, places visited and the large amount we accomplished in the 2 weeks I spent there. First things, Dinadi is a social business in Nepal that ethically hand crafts knitted and crocheted products while changing lives through dignified jobs. I know the founders of Dinadi from our time living in Sweden, and I think back to a short conversation almost 18 months ago with Preston about Nepal, photography and their plans for starting Dinadi. At that stage, Dinadi was still more of an idea then a reality and I am sure the talk of photographing their products and workers was probably not a priority. But fast forward to September 2016 and there I was boarding a flight via Istanbul to Kathmandu, Nepal. I really enjoy my work and love to take photos, but I also genuinely like to work with inspiring people. Preston & Mirjam, the founders of Dinadi, are inspiring people. And I left Nepal with not only thousands of images, but a new sense of purpose and excitement, a desire to do more and be effective knowing that peoples lives are being changed for the better and I have been a part of that. From setting up a mini studio in the office to improvising equipment out of junk on location on the roof of a models home, this project threw a bunch of challenges at us. Working with great people and a company that strives for the best helped to inspire me to create some great images. The images have and will be used throughout Dinadi's online presence as well as featuring heavily in the launch of their first line of products through Kickstarter, a crowd funding campaign. The success of this campaign not only creates a successful business start up, but ensures work and an opportunity for a bunch of women, who through circumstances out of their control, would otherwise have none.
